Does a Doula replace nursing staff? No. Doulas do not replace nurses or other medical staff. Doulas do not perform medical tasks such as taking blood pressures or temperatures. Doulas are there to comfort and support the birthing person and their support people to enhance communication between the family and the medical staff.
Will a doula make my partner feel unnecessary? NO! A doula is supportive of all the people in the birth space. We play a critical role in helping a partner become involved in the birth to the extent that they feel comfortable.
